The spot of this festival is quite near the Kasuga Taisha Honden bus stop. And JR or Kintetsu Line will lead your way there. But before you go there make sure you are at the right time of the year- February 3rd, and the exact place Kasuga Taisha Shrine, Nara City. Otherwise you would not get there. This is a festival of lanterns. During those three days more than three thousand lanterns will light up the sky at Kasuga Taisha Shrine in Nara. Those three days lasts from August 14th to 15th. Each day it starts at 18:30 and ends at 21:00. Since ancient times, this festival has lasted for eight hundred years. And the lanterns, which will be set up during the festival are decorated with the pictures of the samurai warriors in the Warring States Period. The lanterns flying in the sky will light up the sky and the lights from the windows of the building will create a splendid picture which is heart wrenching.
The gardens are also decorated with stone lanterns as well the corridors, with the lanterns hanging over them. On the stone lanterns are strips with letters on them. Most of the strips contain the best wishes from the people, hoping that there will be a happy life in front of them. And the lanterns hanging over the corridors have various shapes. When all those lanterns are lit up in the night, the scenery is quite amazing.
In Japan, the beans and votive picture of a horse are stands for long life. And in the morning of February 3rd, those stuffs will be sold on the fair. And on the street, during the festival, the dancing parade will be put on the show. You would never miss it. So we strongly recommend you to take a stroll in the shrine areas during the festival.
